October 1966 saw Ted & Hilda Johnson commence their new venture, having already moved their then young family to a new life
and home on the Monread Road, Naas.
Far from the busy commercial centre that Monread is today,50 years ago the house and store were deemed to be very much
‘down a country lane’ with a mere scattering of houses.
His first customers were from the farming community, purchasing farm machinery and spare parts.
They moved up a gear in the 80’s to Engineering and Industrial spare parts as the town of Naas flourished and
the industry was booming.
This has become an integral part of the business, sourcing and supplying maintenance equipment and workwear to the local industry.
In 1999 when they opened the 15.000 sq. ft. extension they then had a D.I.Y. Hardware store that is
“Much more than your Average Hardware Store”.
They now have departments in boating, hiking and camping along with Pet Care and Equine.
They also have one of the biggest ‘Crocs’ shoe ranges in the country.
Quoting their customers:
“You can find anything from a needle to an anchor at Ted’s”
